FREEBIES! FedEX Giving Free Resume Printing for the Unemployed

We got clued into an interesting tidbit of information worth sharing:
Apparently FedEX (formerly Kinkos), is allowing job seekers to print 25 free copies of their resume this coming Tuesday, March 10th. Customers are allowed to print free black and white copies, and are encouraged to get out there!
The company president of FedEX wants to help all of those who have been laid off and are struggling to find work in a troubled economy.
Thats good news worth spreading!
Lets support each other by sharing news and resources that can help us during these economic times…
What encouragements and/or tips would you give people who are unemployed and struggling?

There are many companies now, that are ‘itching’ to help…because it will give them a tax break..and it will save them time and help others…great benifits, and another great way to seek work..
It is true, that if you want to work for a company…you need to go thru the phone book, and just start calling companies..
Going to their website is even better,…
just go to a company from the phonebook, and you might find a company that you never thought of before, that is hiring…
But best to go in person…because many of the online ones, get quickly forgotten

Joanna– you’re absolutely right about applying for a job in person! Its far more impressionable than merely submitting your resume or application over the internet. Physically going into a prospective employment opportunity shows INITIATIVE!

Yes April…I have been a bit dissapointed many times,…after I went through the time to apply online, and then to find out they hardly even look at them..however, what I did find, is to print out the app as you go along..
then, take it with you, look sharp, and it is a bit harder for them to ‘refuse’ you lol
also you can do something kinda clever, like post a great photo with you when you send in your resume…
That way, when they are thumbing through all the apps, yours will stand out!
They won’t be guessing what you look like, and it draws attention to you!

That’s really nice of Fed EX. I beleave when you do submit your application. You need to follow up with it. I applied at one job years ago. I called and showed up everyday. Finally, the employer hired me. I guess he relized that I would be a great employee. I worked that job for five years. An application is paper, but a face and a body show determination. Keep walking the streets. The Law of averages has to pay off.

Absolutely Christy! The power of persistence! I like to hear success stories like yours, its a reminder to not get discouraged if you’re shot down the first time around.
In the words of Napoleon: “Victory belongs to the most persevering” !

By the way Joanna, you make a great point: “do something kinda clever, like post a great photo of you”
What a great “extra” step you can take to promote your resume or application!

In light of Christy’s comment –
Has anyone else experienced a time when ‘Persistence’ paid off (while applying for a particular job)? What are some ways that you illustrated determination?
9. March 2009 at 4:01 am :
Yes it does pay off! I graduated high school but never was able to go to college.
Every job that I’ve had I worked hard on getting. (4 in 22 years). I called
the place of employment at least once a week to let them I was still interested.
I had a current copy of my resume at all times, and a clearly printed application.
At each hiring, I was told that I got the job because of my interest to keep following up.

I think its great that a big company would be looking out for the unemployed. I am sure there are alot of people that would need this service. Good looking out.
