Danielle Suffers From Lymes Disease — Danielle, a wonderful, 23-year old, young woman who just found out that she has been suffering for the last two years with Lymes disease. At first, Danielle didn’t know what was wrong, and went to several doctors who told her she just had flu symptoms, but her symptoms kept getting worse — persistent fatigue; loss of concentration; numbness, tingling, and other odd sensations in her hands, arms, feet and legs, headaches, sleep disturbances and joint pains. She was once a thriving, intelligent and athletic young woman who has been so ill the last two years that she has hardly left her bed.
She found a doctor who specializes in the treatment of Lymes Disease. Unfortunately, Danielle doesn’t have health insurance. Lymes disease, if treated quickly, can be cured with simple antibiotics. Unfortunately, Danielle is at stage 2 or 3 of the disease, and the drug treatment plan will consist of antibiotics and IV drips for several months. It is crucial that she start her treatments immediately. Not treating this disease will cause a lifetime of recurring symptoms.
All donations will go toward payment of the doctor’s fees and medicines to cure her of this terrible disease.
I was so happy to have found MicroGiving.com. It is a resource that reaches out to family and friends. MicroGiving.com is an avenue to hope.

International pop star and music legend Olivia Newton-John is scheduled to sing at an upcoming AFL football match with the aim of raising money for her micro charity, the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre. The performance will take place on May 27th at the match between Melbourne and Carlton. Melbourne is Newton-John’s hometown.
Olivia’s Charity in the Works
Olivia Newton-John’s online charity was founded in 2003. Since that time, $15 million has been raised to fund the facility. Due to open next year, the “O” centre requires another $10 million in donations to make the dream a reality.
“I’m incredibly excited at the opportunity to perform in front of a big crowd in my home town of Melbourne and urge all footy fans to come along and give generously so we can now help complete the O” said Olivia. ”I also want to acknowledge the Melbourne Football Club and especially president Jim Stynes for all their tremendous support.”
Newton-John goes on to say that Stynes has his own personal battle, one that inspires Olivia to move forward with the project.
In addition to the public donations expected to be received for the charity organization, Olivia has released a new cookbook titled LivWise. The proceeds from the book will be added to other funding sources for the centre. The book’s publisher’s stated: “The recipes were created in her own kitchen along with recipes contributed by friends and chefs at her Australian health retreat, Gaia. In Livwise, Olivia explains her belief in the importance of eating a healthy diet in order to maintain wellness and balance.”
Those wishing to give to her charity organization can make a micro charity donation online.

There are several ways in which one can look at the micro loans process. It can be viewed as a way to raise money for charity organizations, a type of idea funding or a combination of the two. In some cases, crowdfunding can be combined with business opportunities such as the ones being offered by some online donation sites.
Opportunities for Entrepreneurs
Giving to charity is always rewarding from a social standpoint, giving one a sense of community or the opportunity to give back. Some also utilize the tax deductions that come along with donating to non-profit organizations. Whatever the reason, there are many charities that benefit from the crowdfunding process.
Some organizations give back to their donors in various ways through public acknowledgment, awards and prizes. Auctioning off special events and experiences such as concert tickets and celebrity-related items is also a popular way to go. The latest trend in charity donation is to bid for a chance at a business opportunity with a celebrity. Many celebrity organizations are auctioning off internships at their companies as a way of raising funds for their charities. This idea provides money for the charity while offering a business opportunity for the donor.
Some current examples include internships with fashion designers Diane Von Furstenburg, Rebecca Taylor and Patricia Fields or an internship at Jay-Z’s ROC National record label. Other auctions include internships with H&M’s marketing department and an overseas internship in Hong Kong.
Those interested in participating in any opportunities involving micro loans can donate online.

Many charity organizations can be considered to be micro loan charities because they rely on a wide range of donations and support rather than a handful of large donations by philanthropic organizations. One micro charity that has received the attention of sports legend Michael Jordan is the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Jordan has been working with Make-A-Wish since 2001 and has raised over $5 million.
This year is no different. The 2011 Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational has once again made a sizable donation to the micro charity with a total of $100,000. The funds will be used to help people support the wishes of children with terminal or life-threatening diseases
Granting Wishes
The idea is that a wish experience brings happiness to those children who make a wish, making them stronger and more able to fight against life-threatening medical conditions, according to Make-A-Wish Foundation of America’s President and CEO, David Williams. He also thanked Michael Jordan for his donation saying that the charity was grateful for Jordan’s continuing commitment to empowering children through the foundation’s wish-granting mission.
Jordan is also one of the people that granted a child’s wish. Marc Garcia, a 16-year-old boy from Kunkeltown, PA met his basketball idol in a private chat.
“It was an honor to grant Marc’s wish and enable everyone associated with the Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational to see how their commitment is helping young people like him realize their fondest wish” said Jordan. “I’ve seen over and over how the Make-A-Wish Foundation brings happiness and positively impacts a child’s life with an unforgettable wish experience. Through our charitable efforts, more children will see their wishes come true.”

This year celebrities and popular media outlets such as Ellen DeGeneres, Vicente Neil, Michael Bloomberg, American Idol, NY Nets, and Dancing with the Stars have stepped up to support breaking the cycle of child abuse. Part of that support includes donating items and experiences to Love Our Children USA’s upcoming auction, which runs from April 6th to 28th. People may bid or make online donations at www.charitybuzz.com.
This year also marks the 8th annual GET BLUE Campaign – a nationwide effort to promote Child Abuse Prevention. The campaign is designed to educate families, friends, communities and caregivers about child abuse and neglect by breaking the cycle that perpetuates the crime against helpless victims. It also teaches people how to act in the face of child abuse through contacting various professional and charity organizations equipped to help with legal and counseling issues.
Love Our Children USA Founder and CEO, Ross Ellis said “Child abuse has reached epidemic proportions and the unnecessary tragedies we’ve seen in the last year calls for educating the public immediately and often.”
Making Micro Donations
People considering sending micro donations to agencies such as Love Our Children USA can rest assured that their contributions will help combat abuse against children, breaking the cycle of violence; people can make online donations at the charity’s website.

Justin Bieber has asked for something unusual: microcredit. Bieber is celebrating his birthday – and his success – by asking fans to help raise funds for charity.
“I have had an incredible year and it is all due to the fans helping me live my dream,” said Bieber. “I’m turning 17 years old on Tuesday, and have so much to be grateful for! So this year, I really want my birthday to be all about helping others. Instead of asking for gifts, I’m asking friends, family and fans to consider donating $17 for my 17th birthday to help make a change.”
Bieber’s microcredit goal was for fans to donate a total of $17,000. The singer’s unusual microcredit wish has exceeded initial expectations and has brought in $31,000 to date.
Microcredit Sites Can Help
The charity supported by Justin Bieber is charity:water, an organization responsible for creating clean water sources in underdeveloped countries.
Bieber is also supporting education and awareness on the plight of people that have no access to clean water.
Bieber said: “Did you know that about 4,500 kids die each day from waterborne disease? By building clean water projects for villages that need them, we can prevent this!”
In lieu of microcredit donations, Bieber recommended that people venture into their own community to help in any way that they can, as every little bit helps.

Crowdfunding Sites: As Christchurch struggles to recover from the destruction caused by the recent earthquake, a group of celebrities have begun crowd funding as a means of support. Crowdfunding sites such as DonateChristchurch.co.nz have been providing volunteer opportunities for people to help as much as they can as the survivors of Christchurch try to put the pieces back together.
Celebrities Volunteer in Support of Earthquake Victim Relief
Among those helping by volunteering their time and resources are celebrities Lionel Richie, Guy Sebastian and Phil Keoghan, host of The Amazing Race. Lionel Richie and Australian performer Guy Sebastian will release a new version of Richie’s 1983 hit single “All Night Long” to raise money for victims in Christchurch as well as flood victims in Queensland, Australia.
“As an artist with 40 something years in the business, how do you do something meaningful?” Richie asked in an interview with the Daily Telegraph. “What’s happened this year with the floods and now with the earthquakes, it’s horrific.
How do Crowd Funding Sites Work?
A crowdfund works by people anywhere in the world making a donation. Donors know that by pooling resources and funds, those donations can make a huge difference in the lives of the recipients.
Also donating his time and talent to the Christchurch cause is New Zealand native Phil Keoghan, host of The Amazing Race. Keoghan has travelled to New Zealand to help wherever he can as well as having filmed PSAs for the Red Cross PSAs.
Crowdfunding Sites
Those who wish to make online donations to help with the Christchurch relief effort can visit the following crowdfunding sites: SalvationArmy.org.nz, RedCross.org.nz, or DonateChristchurch.co.nz.

Micro donations are being provided by The Bath Half Marathon supporters. Fearne Cotton, UK radio and TV personality, is scheduled to run the Bath Half Marathon in March, with the aim of raising money for CoppaFeel, a breast cancer charity.
CoppaFeel is one of many cancer micro charity organizations that support education, awareness, and testing for the disease. Donations can be made online to encourage crowdfunding, the act of pooling small resources to make a big impact.
Cotton will compete in support of CoppaFeel, a charitable organization founded by 24 year-old Kristin Hallenga. Hallenga was misdiagnosed two times by doctors before learning that she had an advanced stage of breast cancer.
Cotton says about Kris: “She is one of the most inspirational and brave people I have ever met. Whilst fighting an incredibly brave battle of her own, Kris set about making it her mission to educate young women on the importance of checking their boobs regularly and knowing the signs and symptoms of breast cancer.”
Marathon Micro Donations
This year the Bath Half Marathon celebrates its 30th anniversary. It continues to be one of the most admired city center events throughout the UK. Last year that charity raised over £1.3 million ($2 million).
Nearly 100 people are expected to participate in the event on March 6. More information on micro donations can be found on the charity’s website.

Incorporating a micro loan program is one of the most effective and affordable ways to support a charity. In addition to online donations given by supporters, recipients may receive financial assistance to help them get back on their feet. Another term for this type of program is crowd funding, which simply means that the program relies on support from many sources rather than a few large contributors.
Oxfam’s Micro Loan Program
Oxfam, a well known charity, is one such program that helps people to combat poverty by dedicating funds to specific areas while only a very small percentage of each donation goes to training and operating costs.
The most recent charity event held by Oxfam was a kick off to a month-long program where 100% of all donations went directly to a charity. Oxfam is determined to show that 100% giving is possible and aims to make it more common throughout charitable organizations.
The first event involved wallets being donated by various celebrities and fashionistas, including popular band The Hoosiers, along with Daisy Lowe, Edith Bowman and Gizzi Erskine. Each wallet includes a ‘purse-onal’ message or item from the celebrity.
Some of the items include:
- Gizzi Erskine: Miu Miu cardholder
- Daisy Lowe: sequined purse by Lulu Guinness
- Nick Hewer (The Apprentice): Black leather card holder
- Edith Bowman: Vintage coin purse
- Pearl Lowe: Green Vivienne Westwood wallet
- The Hoosiers: Well traveled leather wallets
- Levi Roots: Black wallet with leather dividers
- Martin Lewis: Wallet with lock and chain
The number of charitable organizations adopting a micro loan program is rapidly growing and looks set to only continue.

Charity Donations: Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton and other special guests will be performing at an upcoming charity event celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Bunbury Celebrity Cricket Team. Funds raised at the event will benefit the AF Foundation as well as the English School’s Cricket Association and Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Centre for alcohol and drug dependency. The AF Foundation raises monies to develop and maintain child rehabilitation and physiotherapy facilities throughout the UK, helping poor people that may not be eligible for care otherwise.
The event will be hosted by British impressionist Rory Bremner and will take place in London at the Grosvenor House Hotel’s Great Room on May 7, 2011. Special guests include ex British politician Jeffrey Archer and journalist Jonny Gould.
Donations Needed
Drawing in charity donations, including online donations, is vital to the success of the event. This year’s event, entitled Bunbury’s Big 25th Birthday Ball, has the chance of being more successful than in previous years. The organization consists of a conglomeration of groups, allowing for more donations as it negates the need for supporters of each charity to be approached individually. The event also allows people to take part in micro credit giving.
Other famous guests include the victorious England cricket Ashes squad of 2010/11. The charity was founded by Sir David English 35 years ago. To date, the Bunbury Celebrity Cricket club has raised more than £12 million ($19.45 million) from various charity donations over the last 25 years.

Micro Credit News: Boy George has chosen to speak out about his charity, Hep Trust, an organization that educates and assists people with Hepatitis C, a highly infectious disease. The Hep Trust is designed to help people deal with the disease as well as the stigma attached. Hepatitis is frequently – and wrongly – related to drugs users. While drugs users may contract Hepatitis C, it is certainly not an exclusive relationship.
Recent statistics show that there are 250,000 – 500,000 people infected with the disease in the UK, however only an approximate around 90,000 have been properly diagnosed.
TV Show Requests Micro Credit Donations
George went on a popular UK morning TV show to explain his cause and ask people to donate online: “I have just done this exhibition for the Hep Trust, which is a charity. Apparently 75 per cent of people that have it don’t know they have it.”
The 1980s pop icon is referring to an art exhibit that is scheduled to be auctioned off in March. Various people will appear in portraits dressed as well known celebrities. For example, Paloma Faith will appear as Boy George and Sadie Frost will appear as Madonna.
People interested in assisting the Hep Trust can also donate online.
Micro Credit Opportunities
The charity was founded in 2001 to act as an advocate for people with Hepatitis C. Previously, the disease was not one frequently talked about because of the stigma attached to it. The Hep Trust is an organization operated entirely by present and former patients with the disease. Staff consists of both paid and volunteer workers. Raising awareness for the organization also includes getting involved with micro credit.

Micro loan donations are at an all time high, thanks to the ease of use many charity websites offer, as well as the support of celebrities from across the world. The “17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards” is a prime example of major movie stars giving back while encouraging others to get on the bandwagon to support various causes. After the Screen Actors Guild Award, stars attended an exclusive charity after party to honor various philanthropic causes including those supported by the SAG. The hosts of the event, People Magazine and the Entertainment Industry Foundation, were proud to support the 15th annual Screen Actors Guild Post-Awards Gala, giving recognition and raising awareness.
Making Micro Loan Donations is Simple
Microgiving makes it easy to help people in dire need of assistance and shows that an online donation does not have to be a large philanthropic event. In fact, most charitable organizations will state that while the large donations are sought after and greatly appreciated, it is usually the less substantial donations that add up to help with bills or special needs not covered by the budget.
It is easier than ever to make micro loan donations, especially if you connect Microgiving to your Facebook account, giving your friends, colleagues and acquaintances the opportunity to support a specific cause, one that might not receive attention in a more traditional manner.

Crowdfunding News: Geena Davis, the actress and activist, is active in speaking out on equality for women and young girls. She has most recently joined forces with a major micro lending site and the skin care giant Dermalogica, to launch a campaign to provide crowdfunding and micro lending to women in low-income regions of the U.S. and across 56 other countries. Ms. Davis has said: “Together, we can maximize our effort to empower women and girls around the world.” Dermalogica will donate $1 for every time a customer uses one of the company’s promotion codes to make an online donation to the campaign.
Crowdfunding Is Not Geena’s First Effort of Helping to Empower Women
As an actress, Ms. Davis is most recently known as President in the show Commander In Chief. However, she is also known in Hollywood not only for her genius status with Mensa but her activities to further roles for women and young girls. In news that will likely interest micro charity philanthropists, Avril Lavigne – songwriter, singer, actress, fashion designer and philanthropist – has established the Avril Lavigne Foundation, which can be described as a micro charity with a mission to help children who are seriously ill or living with a disability. The Foundation has partnered with Erase MS, Easter Seals, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation (Avril having previously worked with Make-A-Wish and Erase MS).
Beyond Her Micro Charity, Ms. Lavigne Has Supported Multiple Causes
Avril came onto the music scene in 2002 at the young age of 17, with her debut album Let Go. Over the past eight years, Ms. Lavigne has been charitably involved with multiple causes and organizations, including Make-A-Wish, Erase MS, Make Some Noise, Amnesty International, the US Campaign for Burma, and War Child. In 2010, Avril attended the Clinton Global Initiative for the first time. Earlier in the year, she was one of several artists to create a cover of K’naan’s “Wavin’ Flag”, as a means of helping to raise money for several relief organizations responding to the 2010 Haiti earthquake. This was not the first time she used her voiced to support a cause. In 2005, she recorded ‘Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door’ for a compilation of peace songs to be used by War Child. In 2007, she recorded ‘Imagine’ as a contribution to Save Darfur.

The Boys and Girls Club of America is the focus of Mark Wahlberg’s philanthropy today because, without them, he would have been a lost youth. Raised by a single mom, he was frequently in trouble with local police. In a recent 60 Minutes interview, Mr. Wahlberg credited his local priest, Father Jim Flavin and the local Boys and Girls Club, as instrumental in changing his life. Some people think philanthropy is just about foundations giving away lots of money, but that’s only one part of the picture. Philanthropy is really about people giving their time, care, and help to causes they care about.
Wahlberg’s New Film, The Fighter, Used For Philanthropy
Wahlberg has a new film, The Fighter, hitting theaters in December. In July 2009, he auctioned off a walk-on cameo in the film to raise money for the Felix Organization. The Felix Organization is dedicated to helping children who are growing up without parents. It provides these children with opportunities and new experiences to improve their lives. Besides his own youth foundation, Wahlberg has been known to support other philanthropy and charity causes such as Operation Smile, A Place Called Home, the Lance Armstrong Foundation, the LA Free Clinic, and the GQ’s Gentlemen’s Fund. He recently teamed up with Microsoft for their free Kinect charity giveaway; efforts to get free Xbox Kinects to members of the Boys and Girls Clubs across America.
His own philanthropy cause, the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation was started in 2001. The Foundation is committed to raise the quality of life for inner city youth by working with already established youth organizations like the Boys and Girls Club of America. It provides financial and community support for projects affecting the dream and helping to fulfill the potential of these youths. Wahlberg’s favorite Boys and Girls Club, and church home, is located in his childhood town, Dorchester, MA.
Microgiving.com applauds Mr. Wahlberg’s primary efforts to support the Boys and Girls Club. Small loans are trending up as a viable source of capital for small businesses across the States. Businesses expected to capitalize on financing from funds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, have not been successful in securing credit from major lenders. So firms in the energy business such as small biodiesel companies have turned to micro lenders for short term working capital.
Small Loans Average $13,000 in the US
Fortunately, for small businesses, in February 2009, President Obama signed the Recovery Act into law. The Act included $56.1 million directed as micro loan funds available through the Small Business Administration (SBA). Provisions in the 2009 Act were expanded by the President when he signed the Small Business Jobs Act (SBJA) of 2010. Under the SBJA of 2010, the loan cap was raised from $35,000 to $50,000 but the average loan is $13,000.
Biodiesel companies such as Tri-State Biodiesel LLC have found this avenue to capital to be a god-send. Tri-State, like many of its competitors, was in extreme need of working capital for equipment upgrades. When other lenders refused to help, Tri-State sought a five-year $50,000 loan through the Boc Capital, an SBA approved micro lender intermediary. The SBJA requires that the fiscal intermediary provide the small business with technical assistance for the period of the loan. This was an advantage to Tri-State; they benefited from advice on staffing and administrative structure.
Small loans are an important source of funding for small businesses and individuals throughout the US. However, individuals can also benefit from organizations such as Microgiving.com that provide micro charity – or peer-to-peer donations. If you would like to help others through online donations of small loans, please search our website.

Breast cancer awareness in Jordan has received a major boost from a micro charity known as The Jordan Micro Credit Company, also known as Tamweelcom. Created from royal roots, the Jordan Breast Cancer Program was designed and implemented by the King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Center. Early detection in breast cancer is critical to successful treatment of the disease. To that end, Tamweelcom and the Jordan Breast Cancer Program are teaming up to increase Jordanian public awareness of the need for early detection.
Jordan Micro Credit Company – a Micro Charity Increasing Social Responsibility
Along with breast cancer awareness, the Jordan Breast Cancer Program works to educate women on individual health rights and personal responsibilities. This particular agreement also focuses on education and has been designed as a “train the trainer” system. Selected female Tamweelcom clients will be trained on awareness and early detection techniques. Once trained, they will be able to launch annual campaigns, taking the information across women’s groups in their own communities. To further ensure the Breast Cancer Program’s success, Tamweelcom facilities located throughout Jordan will be available for use with the program.
Jordan Micro Charity Profile
A non-profit company, Tamweelcom fills a broad social responsibility agenda; they feel this agreement adds to that mission. Over the 11 years since its inception, Tamweelcom has financed 167,000 projects – over 93% of them have been for women. The organization’s primary mission is eradicating poverty and unemployment.
Microgiving welcomes the efforts of the Jordan Micro Credit Company to increase international breast cancer awareness. China now has an exclusive crowdfunding network. Launched by Grow VC in collaboration with local partner C2I Ventures, the network is aimed at entrepreneurs and startup businesses in their early stages. Along with funding options, the network will also provide expertise with startup infrastructure.
China Network Follows India Crowdfunding Network
The China launch follows on the heels of a similar July 2010 launch in India. In only a short time following its launch, the India network has garnered 1,000 members and the support of IndiaCo Ventures and The Indian Angel Network. The Indian network is still growing.
The China venture will follow the same development plan – to hook up with local angel funding networks and other investors. According to C2I Ventures, the funding network is looking for entrepreneurs with initiative and interest in creating a sustainable business. Many startups succeed not only as a result of funding and investment, but in the mentorship and development advice that is provided by the network partners. In some cases, network partners will fill board seats for interested startups.
Over the coming weeks, Grow China VC will be featured at events throughout China, such as the China Mega Forum and the China Mobile Developers Conference. Agreements reached over the next few months with new local network partners will ensure the program’s survival and growth.
