Keys and Ronson Raise Money

Singing sensation Alicia Keys and Brit producer Mark Ronson have teamed up to raise money and are signed up to appear in London to act as hosts for the Annual Keep A Child Alive Black Ball.  The event is set to take place on June 15th at London’s Roundhouse.  Joining Keys and Ronson at the Ball will be Tinie Tempah, Paloma Faith, and many more that have yet to be announced.

The first Annual Keep A Child Alive Black Ball was held in 2004 in New York.  The New York and London events combined have raised more than $13 million with proceeds going to support HIV/AIDS victims located in Africa and India.

Keys Continues to Raise Money  to Save Children

This is not Keys’ first appearance at the Black Ball.  Keys has previously appeared onstage with Annie Lennox, Bono, David Bowie, Sade, Youssou N’Dour, Jennifer Hudson, Gwen Stefani, Jay-Z, John Mayer, Usher Justin Timberlake, Kathleen Battle and Chris Martin in New York to support the charity organizations.

“Each year, Keep a Child Alive gathers extraordinary guests in a night promised to be filled with surprises and special moments” said Alicia Keys, who is also a Keep a Child Alive co-founder.  “I LOVE the Black Ball!  I’m proud to raise awareness and funds for this most important cause to help families in Africa and India affected by AIDS and HIV.  This issue is undeniable – how can we ignore it?  It’s our responsibility as human beings to come together to save lives and care about each other.”

Online Donation for Celebrity Experiences

A recent trend in the online donation and celebrity charity world is a chance to meet-and-greet one or more famous celebrities.  The premise is that people will clamor to donate online to meet a celebrity.  The opportunities are given to those who bid the highest amount for a particular event, whether it is a simple meet-and-greet or a special event such as tickets to a popular show, day long experience, lunch or other fantastic opportunity that a fan would most likely never have the chance to receive otherwise.  One such organization that is participating in this recent trend is charitybuzz.com.  The site gives various charity organizations a chance to raise money in a unique way.  By auctioning off the experiences with the celebrities, it is almost guaranteed that the charity organization receives funds that it may not have received from a single donor under other circumstances.

Online Donation for the Chance of a Lifetime

Recent offerings at charitybuzz.com include once in a lifetime experiences that may never be available again.  The website shows the event, the current highest bid, the number of bids entered, the estimated value, and the date the auction ends.  The celebrity experiences going on right this minute include a stroll through Strawberry Fields with Yoko Ono, a tour of the U.S. Air and Space Museum with famed Astronaut John Glenn, an invitation and meet-and-greet with former President Bill Clinton, and a tour and meet-and-greet at Howard Stern’s Sirius studio. Those interested in giving to charity organizations that raise money in such a unique way can look at the various online donation opportunities.

Eastwood Supports Humanitarian Relief Organizations

Humanitarian Relief Organizations: Clint Eastwood’s newest movie Hereafter, starring Matt Damon, has been pulled from appearing in theaters in Japan. The movie shows various scenes of the tsunami that took place in Japan in 2004.

“The devastation and loss Japan is facing is almost incomprehensible,” says Eastwood. “I’m glad to join Warner Bros. in this effort to help the Japanese people.”

Humanitarian Relief Charities Support Japan

Warner Bros. released a statement saying that a portion of the proceeds from the Hereafter DVD will be sent to the Red Cross to assist in aiding victims of the disaster. It is currently estimated that the tsunami and earthquake have killed more than 10,000 people and have left millions homeless. The American Red Cross, one of the world’s most recognized disaster relief organizations, has been working around the clock to provide as much aid as possible to the victims and their families.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the people of Japan,” said president of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group Kevin Tsujihara. “We are committed to supporting relief and rebuilding efforts during this difficult time.”

Countless humanitarian relief charities have stepped in to try to help those affected by the disasters. Among those are the Red Cross, Salvation Army, and the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund.

In a similar gesture, The Walt Disney Company has announced that it will donate $2.5 million to the Red Cross. People wishing to make donations to the Red Cross may do so by texting REDCROSS to 90999. The text will automatically send a $10 donation to the Red Cross. People may choose to make a donation to humanitarian relief organizations through a local chapter of the Red Cross or donate online.

Keanu Reeves: Unlikely to Make an Online Donation, but Charitable Nevertheless

Keanu Reeves – star of the movie Matrix – is unlikely to ever make an online donation, because contrary to his alter ego from the cyber-world that he is known for, in reality he does not even come close to being a computer geek. In fact, he is not even a frequent computer user.  But not being involved in the real life tech world has not kept him from his willingness to give to charity.  Keanu’s philosophy on money is that he prefers to give much of his earnings away, living simply and without attachment to the material aspects of life.

No Online Donation in Life Fits Keanu’s Style

Keanu Reeves is a bit “old school”. This is a man who still believes in hand-written letters, refusing to become personally involved in the tech world of emails and other forms of electronic communication.  Not only has Keanu given millions of dollars of his own money to various charities, one of which provides support to leukemia patients (he has a sister who has fought with the disease for the last ten years), but he has also given much of his own money to help ordinary citizens.  As an appreciation, in 2003 Keanu gave $79 million to the costume and special effects teams of the Matrix movies – a gift that resulted in approximately $2.7 million for each team member.  While filming the movies in Australia, he provided each stuntman with a $12,000 Harley Davidson motorcycle.  His millions to charities have gone to Angelwear, City of Hope, CoachArt, LIFEbeat, Make It Right, PETA, Racing for Kids, Spinal Cord Opportunities for Rehabilitation Endowment, Stand Up To Cancer and Wildlife WayStation.  Ironically, Keanu’s latest contribution did not come from him directly but from fans who were concerned that he looked extremely “sad” in a picture posted on the web.  Once they saw the picture, Keanu’s caring fans put together a Facebook page that allowed followers to make an online donation to Keanu’s preferred charity, Stand Up 2 Cancer.

Carrie Underwood Supports Disaster Relief Organizations

Disaster relief organizations are receiving support from 2009 Academy of Country Music (ACM) Entertainer of the Year, Carrie Underwood. One of her recent acts of philanthropy involves helping to establish the ACM Lifting Lives Temporary Home Fund last year. The Fund specifically benefits victims of the Tennessee floods of early 2010 and it was kicked off with grants that Ms. Underwood received from ACM as Entertainer of the Year. Carrie also encouraged fans to become actively involved with online donation, no matter how small the pledge. She also teamed up with Brooks and Dunn to support the new Fund by recording a Public Service Announcement (PSA). This in turn encouraged viewers of the ACM final tour, The Last Rodeo, to text in one-time $10 donations.

Underwood’s Philanthropy Goes Beyond Disaster Relief Organizations

Ms. Underwood actually used her ACM Lifting Lives connection when she established her own charity known as the C.A.T.S. Foundation (Checotah Animal, Town and School), an organization dedicated to working with other not-for-profit organizations and improving services in Carrie’s hometown of Checotah, Oklahoma. C.A.T.S. came together with the ACM organization to provide Checotah’s public school system with musical instruments worth over $117,000. When not involved in disaster relief and the arts, Carrie has also raised awareness for Susan G Komen’s Race for the Cure, as well as organizations dedicated to caring for animals, such as the Humane Society and PETA. Ms. Underwood worked with Pedigree dog food to establish an animal shelter in her home town.

Microgiving applauds Ms. Underwood’s efforts to support various organizations and, more importantly, for creating her own foundation. Like Ms. Underwood and her Foundation, Microgiving works to help other disaster relief organizations as well as individuals requiring emergency financial assistance.
