Online Donations and Celebrities Help City of Hope

There are many charity organizations that rely on online donations to help raise funds for important programs.  One of those charities is City of Hope, an agency that dedicates itself to research for life threatening diseases such as diabetes, cancer and HIV/AIDS.  City of Hope will also raise funds through a special charity event to honor Irving Azoff and his wife, both of whom are longtime supporters of the City of Hope charity.

Online Donations can Support Important Research

City of Hope’s annual Spirit of Life concert and gala honoring the Azoffs will be held on May 7th at the Gibson Amphitheater at Universal Studios.  Appearing at the event will be the Eagles, who are under Azoff’s management company.  Also present will be MC Billy Bush, Big Time Rush, Darren Criss, Cody Simpson and Greyson Chance.

The Eagles will bring their Long Road to Eden to a special celebrity charity event to honor their manager Irving Azoff and his wife next month.

“We are grateful and privileged to receive this year’s Spirit of Life award, and are proud to help recognize the incredible work being done by researchers at City of Hope” said Mr. Azoff.  “The institution’s level of advanced research into finding cures for life-threatening diseases is unparalleled, and we’re pleased to support its vision.”

Also on hand will be Khloe, Kim and Kourtney Kardashian who will conduct tram tours throughout Universal Studios.

Crowdfunding Through Celebrity Auctions

Crowdfunding through celebrity auctions is becoming increasingly popular as a way to raise a large amount of money without relying on a small number of generous philanthropists.  Celebrities from many different arenas including movies, music and sports are gathering together for a common cause.  One common cause is Play For Life – an organization that raises funds for cancer research.

Crowdfunding for Cancer

This year Play For Life has joined forces with City of Hope, an innovative global biomedical research, educational and treatment facility.  City of Hope is dedicated to finding a cure for cancer as well as raising awareness and promoting the prevention of cancer and similar life-threatening diseases.  The facility is known for its patient-centered philosophy.

Play For Life and City of Hope are holding a charity auction this spring to raise necessary funds for the facility.  Supporters of the charity organizations can help by making online donations as well as by bidding on some once in a lifetime experiences with famous musicians.  The recipient of the auction is City of Hope’s music therapy program.

Some of the artists participating in this year’s auction include:

Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, Bret Michaels, Coldplay, Keith Urban, Enrique Iglesias, Lady Antebellum, Colbie Caillat, Linkin Park, 3 Doors Down. Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts, Rihanna, New Kids On The Block, Carrie Underwood and Barry Manilow. Those unable to make bids on the musical experiences may choose to donate online through the websites for Play For Life and/or City of Hope.

Bret Michaels Devotes Time to Online Donations

Those interested in online donations might be interested to read about Bret Michaels. Best known for his recent stint on Season 3 of Celebrity Apprentice, Michaels is also devoted to helping the American Diabetes Association (ADA).   In fact, while on Celebrity Apprentice, Bret won $640,000 for the ADA with another $250,000 coming from Snapple for his Celebrity win.

Recent Surgery Results in Fan Support and Generous Online Donations

Bret was recently on Garrett Jackson’s Car Auction to support the auction of a newly manufactured one-of-a-kind Boss 302 Mustang, raising $450,000 for the Juveniles Diabetes Foundation.  Bret is an avid supporter of the condition as he was diagnosed with Type I diabetes at the young age of six.

While filming the apprentice, Michaels fell ill and was hospitalized for what was eventually diagnosed as a massive subarachnoid hemorrhage.  He did return to the show and won the final prize.  After additional hospitalizations, he was diagnosed with a hole in his heart which required recent surgery.  While in the hospital, Michaels’ fans made significant online donations to his favorite charity, the American Diabetes Association.  The influx was so great that Michaels sent out a “thank you” to his fans after clearing surgery.

Beyond the ADA and Juvenile Diabetes Association, Bret has supported the Armed Forces with tours of Iraq to meet the troops; St. Jude Children’s Research,  the Diabetes Research Institute, Make-A-Wish, RADD, Raven Drum Foundation, rock CAN roll, and the Skylar Neil Memorial Foundation.

Microgiving applauds Mr. Michaels commitment to diabetes education and research.  Like Bret, Microgiving works to support those in need with the help of those who give to charity.  If you would like to donate to a Microgiving recipient in need of emergency financial assistance, please continue to explore our website and learn more about online donations today.

Disaster Response Symposium Taking Place in Amarillo

Emergency workers across Oklahoma and Texas have met to discuss disaster response in the 2nd Decision and Support Symposium.

The event, which is taking place at Polk Street Business & Industry Center at Amarillo College, has drawn many officials to the city to discuss the issue of emergency disaster response.

This year’s event is being hosted by Potter-Randall Office of Emergency Management and the Weather Service, and has seen personnel from departments such as fire, military, police, county leadership and school districts discuss ways in which to further support the community.

According to Roland Nunez, a senior forecaster for Amarillo’s National Weather Service, the aim is to “build better relationships with the decision-support community”.

He also commented that the events aim to build a foundation for new disaster response services, noting: “How do we better connect with folks and what they’re needing?”

While the event is not open to the public, the gathering will allow the various organizations to hear stories and issues direct from the mouths of those directly involved, and “check the pulse of what they’re needing”.

One of the main events on show is a simulation of a disaster playing out, which shows how officials respond in the event of a disaster.

Individual Response

Many people often assume that the word ‘disaster’ pertains to national disasters that affect an entire city, or even a nation – but very often disasters take place that affect smaller communities, where very often the damage is equally as destructive.

Microgiving provides a platform where those in need of their own individual financial disaster response can receive help – if you are in need of support, please register as a recipient to see how our donors can help in your time of need.

Online Donations Become Easier with Mobile Applications

Online donations just keep getting easier thanks to Artez Interactive. A leading North American provider of fundraising platforms, Artez has launched a new mobile iPhone application that supports online fundraising. Working with its charitable partners, Artez has raised over 500 million dollars over the past 10 years through the digital revolution. The new app will soon be offered to various organization, allowing them to customize it for their own fundraising efforts.

Online Donations Will Happen “Anywhere and Everywhere”

According to Artez’s Chairman, James Appleyard, “The move to mobile will now allow consumers to make online donations anywhere and everywhere.  It takes the entire web fundraising experience and puts it in your hand.”

Such freedom for donors can be crucial when disaster organizations require individuals to respond to worldwide disasters such as the recent floods in Pakistan or the Haiti earthquake.

Working with their charitable partners, Artez will provide tailor-make apps for various websites and organizations, allowing partners to benefit from customized branding, and for donors to donate online while on the go. In addition, Appleyard believes that its new app will allow organizations to respond more effectively and efficiently to disasters, even within 72 hours – the most effective time to successfully solicit community members for donations.

The application will be unveiled at a digital conference this week and should be available to charitable organizations within the next few weeks. PayPal has also worked closely with Artez in the development of the application and to ensure personal security.

Creating mobile applications to make helping poor people easier is a natural evolution of the smartphone and converging technologies. Online donations are the life-blood charitable organizations such as Microgiving, and we invite you to search our website and consider making a donation yourself to one of our community members in need.
