Patricia Heaton is best known for her work on the hit comedy Everybody Loves Raymond, and her current role in the sitcom The Middle. Heaton has stepped up to support social media as a way of making online donations to worthy causes such as Reece’s Rainbow. Heaton has stated that she will make an online charity donation for every person that follows the feed for Reece’s Rainbow on Twitter. She will donate $1 for every follower up to $10,000.
“I know there can be big pitfalls to social media, but I will be forever grateful to the tweeter who alerted me to the work of Reece’s Rainbow” said Heaton. Reece’s Rainbow is an outreach program aimed at serving families with babies with Down syndrome. “I clicked on a link to see the faces of those little neglected angels who have passed on, and immediately started weeping. It was so heartbreaking.” She went on to say that sometimes people felt helpless in the face of such horror, however, thanks to Andrea Roberts’ example, they could see that with a lot of perseverance and hard work, anyone can make a difference.
How to Make an Online Donation
People may donate via Twitter or through the agency’s website. It is an easy way to support an online charity while maintaining a busy schedule like Heaton’s. Heaton said: “I am involved in supporting various charitable organizations, but I have recently been asking God to show me where he wants me to be.” She added that the online charity donation scheme for Reece’s Rainbow was an answer to her prayer.

How to Help People: Nickelodeon has launched a new campaign as part of “The Big Help” program that will involve an interactive initiative designed to help people understand and combat cyber bullying. “The Big Help” has been an ongoing program for Nickelodeon, one that connects to kids to give them information on responsible and safe behaviors. The newly designed website will incorporate “digital citizenship” and anti-bullying information and advice from Common Sense Media’s “Rules of the Road.”
The campaign will get help from Nickelodeon stars like iCarly’s Nathan Kress and Miranda Cosgrove, who have agreed to appear in PSAs for the campaign. The stars will give advice to kids that are being cyber bullied and how to prevent it. The concept includes idea funding from various sources to help kids understand their responsibilities and options.
“Kids are interacting with digital media every day. It is second nature to them and an important part of their lives” stated Executive VP of Public Affairs for the Nickelodeon Kids and Family Group, Marva Smalls. “Nickelodeon provides kids with information to help them have engaging, entertaining and healthy experiences online. By partnering with Common Sense, we will help young people simplify and improve their digital communications.”
How to Connect Responsibly
“Today’s kids connect, create, and collaborate through media. But it’s extremely important for them to reflect on the implications of their online actions” said Common Sense Media CEO and founder James Steyer. He went on to say that today’s kids needed to think critically about how they interacted with others in their online and mobile lives, and that the community needs to know how to help people, especially kids, in making responsible decisions.

Crowdfunding News: People all over the world are getting together to do what they can for the victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Many online charity organizations have been relying on crowdfunding and micro donations to help raise money for those affected by the natural disasters. One of the most recent efforts made by world musicians is the release of a compilation album titled, “Songs for Japan.” The album will include 38 hits and classic pieces by world artists such as Sting, Elton John, Shakira and John Lennon.
Crowdfunding With Music
Songs for Japan will be released as a digital album. It will be available on iTunes worldwide for $9.99. Proceeds from this crowdfunding project will go to the Japanese Red Cross Society (JRCS). The Red Cross will use the proceeds to provide immediate disaster relief for the victims of the disaster.
All of the artists whose work appears on the album have waived all royalties. The music labels and publishers have followed suit so that the JRCS will receive as much money as possible. iTunes will also donate all of the proceeds from the sale.
Some of the songs appearing on the album are:
John Lennon “Imagine,” Bob Dylan “Shelter From The Storm,” Justin Timberlake “Like I Love You,” Josh Groban “Awake,” Lady Antebellum “I Run To You,” Black Eyed Peas “One Tribe,” Foo Fighters “My Hero,” Elton John “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me,” John Mayer “Waiting On The World To Change” and Sting “Fragile.”
International crowdfunding projects like these will go a long way to providing funds for helping disaster relief efforts in Japan.

Liam Gallagher, former Oasis band member, has announced a performance that will offer emergency financial assistance to the victims of the tsunami that occurred in Japan earlier this month. Gallagher and his new band, Beady Eye, will appear at a special charity performance in London on April 3rd at the Brixton O2 Academy. Tickets go on sale on March 25th.
Joining Beady Eye on stage will be Primal Scream, Paul Weller, Richard Ashcroft and Graham Coxon, formerly of Blur. Coxon’s former band mate, Damon Albarn, is expected to perform but the rumors have not yet been confirmed. Primal Scream fans will get a special treat as Sex Pistols legend Glen Matlock takes to the stage during their segment.
“Liam has been shocked by the footage of the devastation in Japan” read a report from the Sun newspaper. ”Oasis were, and still are, hugely popular out there. The band have always been treated like kings so he wants to do his bit.”
The newspaper went on to add “Graham has mentioned the gig to Damon Albarn. It could be the end of one of the most famous British rock ‘n’ roll feuds ever if he shows up.”
Ongoing Emergency Financial Assistance
The victims of the tsunami have been receiving a great deal of emergency financial help from various micro charity websites ever since the disaster struck, however, the extremely high death toll and vast destruction has proven to be much larger in scope than originally estimated.
People that wish to donate online may do so via the Salvation Army or American Red Cross, proceeds of which will go toward providing emergency financial assistance.

The organization is well known for working with non-profits around the world through online donations, giving bidders the opportunity to win high level auctions while giving to charity.
Micro donations and crowdfunding are becoming increasingly popular, particularly since people have the opportunity to donate online. Previously, donations would have to be made over the phone or through the mail, which was a hindrance. People have often been hesitant to donate small amounts because it may have seemed like small amounts could not make a difference. Micro donations have made it possible for people to help on all levels, further benefiting the charities.

On March 26th FACE Africa will be helping poor people of Africa by holding its annual Clean Water Benefit Gala. The event, which will take place at The Taj Boston, will honor Marcus Samuelsson. The event will also feature special guests Whitney Port and Dikembe Mutombo.
According to FACE Africa, one of many African humanitarian relief organizations, the charity “connects and collaborates with individuals and organizations doing life-changing work around the world to raise awareness and help transform impoverished communities in Liberia and Sierra Leone.” Their goal is to “rebuild and improve communities that were impacted during years of civil unrest in Liberia and Sierra Leone by providing access to clean water and sanitation, education and training, health and nutritional programs, and empowering women and girls.”
The evening’s special guest of honor, author and chef Marcus Samuelsson, has been involved in relief organizations for more than a decade, working as a UNICEF Ambassador since 2000.
Celebrity Volunteering Opportunities
Reality TV star and actress Whitney Port recently took a trip to Africa to better understand what volunteers face when they agree to help agencies like FACE Africa and UNICEF. Last year Ms. Port visited Liberia with a team from FACE Africa to become educated on the issues the people face day to day. Like Port, Dikembe Mutombo, founder of the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation, has put his time and energy to good use by raising awareness about the plight of the people in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
As these countries are in dire need of help, there are always open opportunities for helping poor people. Those wishing to help with the individual plight of others can visit Microgiving to contribute with online donations.

Those who regularly get involved in online charity donation will be pleased to hear that multi-platinum singer and musician Usher has donated earnings he previously made from performing for Colonel Gaddafi.
Usher is the latest in a line of celebrities to confirm they have donated money made from performing for the infamous Libyan leader. Singers Beyonce and Nelly Furtado announced last week that they would be donating their gig earnings for performing for Gaddafi.
Usher said of his decision that he was very troubled after learning about recent events in Libya, and as a result decided to donate all of his personal proceeds earned for performing for the Libyan leader’s family to a number of human rights organizations.
Following the statement, Usher promptly donated money to Amnesty International.
Internet Charity Donation Opportunities
Libya has a long history of failing to meet the basic human rights of its citizens, and the recent events in North Africa follow a string of other protests that have erupted in the region. Individuals and groups looking to make charity donations to help those less fortunate who are not afforded basic human rights can do so via a number of organizations, one of the most prevalent of which is Amnesty International.
If you wish to help contribute to those in need, perhaps by getting involved in our own crowd funding efforts, register with Microgiving today and see how you can help with the individual plight of our members, many of whom are in need of emergency financial assistance. Justin Bieber has asked for something unusual: microcredit. Bieber is celebrating his birthday – and his success – by asking fans to help raise funds for charity.
“I have had an incredible year and it is all due to the fans helping me live my dream,” said Bieber. “I’m turning 17 years old on Tuesday, and have so much to be grateful for! So this year, I really want my birthday to be all about helping others. Instead of asking for gifts, I’m asking friends, family and fans to consider donating $17 for my 17th birthday to help make a change.”
Bieber’s microcredit goal was for fans to donate a total of $17,000. The singer’s unusual microcredit wish has exceeded initial expectations and has brought in $31,000 to date.
Microcredit Sites Can Help
The charity supported by Justin Bieber is charity:water, an organization responsible for creating clean water sources in underdeveloped countries.
Bieber is also supporting education and awareness on the plight of people that have no access to clean water.
Bieber said: “Did you know that about 4,500 kids die each day from waterborne disease? By building clean water projects for villages that need them, we can prevent this!”
In lieu of microcredit donations, Bieber recommended that people venture into their own community to help in any way that they can, as every little bit helps.

The EJAF has just confirmed that its Awards Viewing Party will be held for the 19th year, and this year’s hosts will be Elton John and David Furnish. The event will take place on February 27, 2011, at Los Angeles’ Pacific Design Center, and festivities will begin with a cocktail hour at 4:00 PM, followed by an elaborate dinner and then the main event: the Oscars. This year’s meal will be prepared by James Beard Foundation winner Chef Ludo Lefebvre.
Online donations are gratefully accepted by EJAF and will serve to work toward a cure for HIV/AIDS. Sir Elton said he would hold the event every year until a cure was found for the deadly disease. Sir Elton has held up his end of the deal and is routinely supported by the biggest stars in the world, including many Hollywood legends.
Over $125 Million Raised for Emergency Assistance
Since Sir Elton founded the organization in 1993, EJAF has managed to raise over $125 million. The monies have been used to educate and help people living with HIV/AIDS and to eliminate prejudice throughout 55 countries.
“2011 marks the 30th year since the disease we have come to know as HIV/AIDS was first observed by physicians in American patients,” said Sir Elton.
EJAF has proven itself to be one of the largest and most successful charity organizations providing emergency financial assistance on the planet.

Micro Credit News: Boy George has chosen to speak out about his charity, Hep Trust, an organization that educates and assists people with Hepatitis C, a highly infectious disease. The Hep Trust is designed to help people deal with the disease as well as the stigma attached. Hepatitis is frequently – and wrongly – related to drugs users. While drugs users may contract Hepatitis C, it is certainly not an exclusive relationship.
Recent statistics show that there are 250,000 – 500,000 people infected with the disease in the UK, however only an approximate around 90,000 have been properly diagnosed.
TV Show Requests Micro Credit Donations
George went on a popular UK morning TV show to explain his cause and ask people to donate online: “I have just done this exhibition for the Hep Trust, which is a charity. Apparently 75 per cent of people that have it don’t know they have it.”
The 1980s pop icon is referring to an art exhibit that is scheduled to be auctioned off in March. Various people will appear in portraits dressed as well known celebrities. For example, Paloma Faith will appear as Boy George and Sadie Frost will appear as Madonna.
People interested in assisting the Hep Trust can also donate online.
Micro Credit Opportunities
The charity was founded in 2001 to act as an advocate for people with Hepatitis C. Previously, the disease was not one frequently talked about because of the stigma attached to it. The Hep Trust is an organization operated entirely by present and former patients with the disease. Staff consists of both paid and volunteer workers. Raising awareness for the organization also includes getting involved with micro credit.

Crowdfund News: Legendary rocker Eric Clapton overcame alcohol and drug abuse in 1988. Ten years later, he founded the Crossroads Centre in Antigua to help people with substance abuse recovery. Once Clapton overcame his own substance abuse he remained clean, even when his young son died tragically just three years later. The result has been hits like “My Father’s Eyes” and “Tears In Heaven”, along with founding the Centre and taking part in two to three benefit concerts a year since 2001.
Clapton’s Crowdfund Mission to Help People Accomplished from Sale of Guitars
Clapton, on a crowdfund mission, held auctions in 1999 and 2004, the proceeds of which were used to help support the Crossroads Centre. The auctions resulted in around $7.5 million, which would be used for treatment and programs provided at Crossroads. Another crowdfund auction is scheduled for March 2011 in which Eric will auction off around 70 of his own guitars and amplifiers, including the guitar he used during the 2005 Cream reunion concerts.
But Eric’s crowdfund benefit concerts and auctions have not only supported the Crossroads Centre. He has also supported the National Deaf Children’s Society, the Evelina Children’s Heart Organization, the Cranleigh Arts Centre, the Red Cross, Amnesty International, ARMS, Live Aid, Children with Leukemia, Great Ormond Street Hospital, the Special Olympics, the Teenage Cancer Trust, Variety Club and the Yele Haiti Foundation.
How You Can Help Crowdfund
Microgiving thanks Mr. Clapton for his philanthropic efforts. Like Eric, Microgiving works to help people overcome difficulties as well as their need for emergency financial assistance. If you would like take part in our crowdfund mission, please visit our website today.

Those interested in online donations might be interested to read about Bret Michaels. Best known for his recent stint on Season 3 of Celebrity Apprentice, Michaels is also devoted to helping the American Diabetes Association (ADA). In fact, while on Celebrity Apprentice, Bret won $640,000 for the ADA with another $250,000 coming from Snapple for his Celebrity win.
Recent Surgery Results in Fan Support and Generous Online Donations
Bret was recently on Garrett Jackson’s Car Auction to support the auction of a newly manufactured one-of-a-kind Boss 302 Mustang, raising $450,000 for the Juveniles Diabetes Foundation. Bret is an avid supporter of the condition as he was diagnosed with Type I diabetes at the young age of six.
While filming the apprentice, Michaels fell ill and was hospitalized for what was eventually diagnosed as a massive subarachnoid hemorrhage. He did return to the show and won the final prize. After additional hospitalizations, he was diagnosed with a hole in his heart which required recent surgery. While in the hospital, Michaels’ fans made significant online donations to his favorite charity, the American Diabetes Association. The influx was so great that Michaels sent out a “thank you” to his fans after clearing surgery.
Beyond the ADA and Juvenile Diabetes Association, Bret has supported the Armed Forces with tours of Iraq to meet the troops; St. Jude Children’s Research, the Diabetes Research Institute, Make-A-Wish, RADD, Raven Drum Foundation, rock CAN roll, and the Skylar Neil Memorial Foundation.
Microgiving applauds Mr. Michaels commitment to diabetes education and research. Like Bret, Microgiving works to support those in need with the help of those who give to charity. Micro Lending News: Actress Ashley Judd is best known for movie murder mysteries like Double Jeopardy and High Crimes, but her body of philanthropy involves the support of charity organizations such as Population Services International (PSI). Along with supporting organizations like PSI, Ms. Judd is an environmental activist and encourages everyone to get involved through volunteer opportunities.
Micro Lending Supporters Hail Judd’s Philanthropy Efforts
Ms. Judd’s philanthropic activities and time have focused on PSI for the last several year; in fact, she has been on their board since 2004. PSI is a global health organization with programs in HIV, reproductive health, malaria and child survival. Since its inception, PSI has been focused on the bottom-line so that it may continue to offer programs across 60 countries. PSI’s prevention program, YouthAIDS, has taken Ms. Judd into thirteen countries including Cambodia, Kenya and Rwanda. Visits to these countries inspired Ms. Judd to film three documentaries for YouthAIDS.

Before Taylor Swift began her philanthropy efforts to give back to the community, the country singer star stormed the music scene in 2006 with her debut single. Within a year, she began her charitable efforts in order to give back to her community. In 2007 she partnered with Tennessee Governor Bredesen to battle sex crimes over the internet. Over the course of a year, this campaign distributed internet safety tips and materials to families across the state.
Swift’s Philanthropy Crosses a Range of Causes
In 2008, Taylor hooked up with the children’s charity, the Victory Junction Gang (VJG) and the Red Cross Disaster Relief Funds (on a regional and national level). Taylor received a pink Chevy pick-up from her record label, which she donated to the VJG. VJG is a kid’s camp dedicated to providing kids with serious health needs a positive and life-changing camp experience, and was created by the NASCAR Petty family in honor of Adam Petty.
That same year, Taylor gave all proceeds from merchandise sales at the 2008 Country Music Festival to the Nashville Area Red Cross and the National American Red Cross. Later that year, she provided $100,000 to the Red Cross in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to help with flood relief. In late 2009, she surprised the BBC’s Children in Need gala where she not only jetted to the UK to perform her music, but donated over $20,000 to the cause. This past year, Taylor joined the “Got Milk” campaign, donated $100,000 to build a playground in her hometown, and supported Save the Music Foundation with an auction package to meet her and fly two people to one of her concerts. In addition, on her 21st birthday she donated $250,000 to the US education school system.
