Alas! A Holy Sanctified Reference Manual!

          
Ambiguous slews of complex, intellectual jargon leaving you tired, anxious, and confused? You may be deficient in your daily recommended intake of fish oil and vitamin B—or alternatively, you may be just a wee bit antiquated. Nonetheless, you need not fret!  We’ve listed some lingo in our Glossary of Terms to bring you up to par with the upper echelon of internet savvy society.


Activism  [ak-tuh-viz-uhm] –Organized and intentional action to bring forth reform.

Blog   [blög] –Short for web log; a personal online journal that is open to the public and updated recurrently. Authors are referred to as bloggers; inactive bloggers are bungling lagging loggers.

Creative Fundraising [kree-ey-tiv] [fuhnd-rey-zing] –Resourceful, inventive, and alternative ideas employed to raise funds.

Crowd Sourcing  [kroud]  /[sawr-sing, sohr-] –leveraging mass collaboration in order to achieve business goals by delegating particular tasks to a collective group (or crowd).

Fundraising page [fuhnd-rey-zing] [peyj] –A web page that outlines and details your charity or fundraiser and allows the public to learn about, donate, and sponsor your cause.

Glossary of Terms  [glos-uh-ree, glaw-suh-] –A cross-referenced glossary of linguistic and grammatical terms containing accompanying definitions.

Micro Charity   [mahy-kroh] [char-i-tee] Also: Micro donations - Funding as little as $1 directly to help the need of an individual in financial hardship. Micro-charity can have a tremendous macro effect when many more donors participate in a joint effort to pool their charitable funds. For example, ten thousand individuals each donating $1 yields a lump sum of $10,000. And you thought it was the loose change and pocket lint you dump in the tithe bucket Sunday morning.

Microfinance
  [mahy-kroh]  [fi-nans, fahy-nans] –Providing a bank for the bankless; or your financial services such as credit, monetary means, and/or savings within the reach of millions of individuals with little or no wealth to support their needs or entrepenural endeavors.  Other related terms: Microsavings, money transfer vehicles, and microinsurance.

Micro Philanthropy   [mahy-kroh] [fi-lan-thruh-pee] – A fancy-do-da way of saying ‘Micro Charity’ employed in wistful hope to sound more sophisticated.

ePhilanthropy   [ee] [fi-lan-thruh-pee] –Online philanthropy, or charitable giving, using the internet as a tool to facilitate and manage your fundraising, charitable deeds, and/ or volunteer work.

NPO/ NGO  [en] [/pee] /[oh] –Acronym for ‘Non Profit Organization’ and ‘Non Governmental Organization.

P2P  [/pee] [tou] [/pee] –Stands for ‘Peer to Peer’ and is a file sharing application that allows the exchange of content files such as audio, video, and data.

RSS Feed
  [ahr] [es] [es] [feed] –Real Simple Syndication; Short headlines that are sent to subscribers to notify of recent updates. For example, a news website may send out immediate headlines to alert and notify subscribers of the latest news.

Social Actions  [soh-shuhl] [ak-shuhn] –Societal collaboration to implement reform.

Social Networks  [soh-shuhl] [net-wurk] –An association of people, groups, and organizations who are drawn together by relationship of similar interests, goals, and other commonalities and where forth communication and information are exchanged.

Web 2.0 [web] [tou] [point] [oh] –A term that references a “second generation” to the world wide web. Basically, it umbrellas an entire web community of social networks and websites where web designers, developers, bloggers, dweebs, and smarty pants galore collaborate and exchange creativity, knowledge, information, and lifelong friendships.
