Biography
My name is Sharon, I am a single mom of one 12 year old boy. His name is Andrew. We were flooded out of our home last June 2008. We had rented for 6 years. We have a very close relationship. Andrew is on the honor role, chess club, advanced math, and is in orchestra at school. Since the flood we have found a nice place to live and Andrew has started his first year in middle school. Our car is barely running and our utilities at our new place are huge. I am 35 years old. I have been a secretary at a non profit group that does holiday food baskets for needy families for many years. I do not get paid very much, but I love helping people. I am a happy person who loves to go fishing and camping.

(if so are they attached to your request?): Yes, I have got several denials from FEMA, I have appealed, )they revised after that)and gave us a total of 3 months rent- THATS it! We would take one of their trailers, they will not let us stay in one! No they are not attached- it has personal information on it on it.
What other sources of income do you or your family receive?: Both adults work. Jenny works full-time. I haven't worked more than 10 hours a week since the flood. The bussiness I work at has almost had to shut down- It's local non-profit-People don't want to give right now.

My progress: We have had several people e-mail us with info. on mobile homes for sale and duplexs for
rent. The mobile home we looked at today was clean and in a nice park but is 12,500. The
duplex we looked at yesterday was great, she 14 more people that want to look at it also.

Description: My name is Sharon and I live in Iowa. Here in Cedar Rapids we had bad flooding in june. My
family and I were renters of a duplex for 6 years. I have lived in Iowa my entire life and
graduated from Kennedy High School in 1992. After losing our home, we had a very hard
time,FEMA doesn't help with deposits. We had to come up with $800 we didn't have. We were
split up and living on peoples couches. We now are very happy to say that through it all
we found a nice place to live beginning in october. I could really use some help. My car
has stopped running. It needs a fuel pump. It is very expensive because it is inside the
gas tank. I live fairly close to my job, but I have to get my son,Andrew to school, which
is not close. My job was affected indirectly by the floods, and I am only getting 30 hours
a week instead of 40.
My progress: I have found a man who went to automotive school and was a mechanic for years. He is now a
welder, but is willing to work on my car on a weekend. The fuel pump is the most
important, but after that the car will need both CV boots and joints replaced. With both
of those things done, it should last a long time. This very nice person will do the needed
work on my car for (alot)less money than the repair shops I checked with.

Description: In June we were flooded out of our home and we cannot go back.We have found a home to move
into but the bills are alot higher than we have ever paid before. Jenny just had a dental
emergency(abcessed tooth),and now have a large bill that insurance won't cover.We still
have one car that needs CV joints. We don't have enough money each month for food.

the CV joints are bad. They are the axels that turn your front wheels. We have not had
such a great year, and could use some help getting our car fixed. I only have a ride to

Description: I am classifying this under flood recovery because we were flooded from our home last year
and we are still recovering. The bills at our new home we rent are alot more than we paid
before. I can barely put food on the table, keep our car running and most of all pay the
utilities!
