Biography

We are a volunteer-powered nonprofit organization focused on providing assistance to women and children in rural Kenya.

My Purpose

The mission of the Opportunity Fund for Developing Countries (OFDC) is to open a channel of assistance to peoples of the developing world by offering microcredit and training to women, education assistance to children and basic health care to all.

OFDC works side-by-side with villagers to collaborate on locally identified problems and develop solutions that are felt long after we are gone. We currently are concentrating our efforts on Kenya. Past projects have been in Bolivia, Guatemala, Malawi and Nepal.

Description: Health care in developing countries is virtually nonexistent. Nearly half the world's child deaths occur in Africa due to malaria, AIDS and diarrheal diseases. Your OFDC donation buys mosquito nets so children can sleep protected from malaria-carrying mosquitoes. During the rainy season, ponds become mosquito breeding grounds. Sadly, 90 children under the age of five die every day from malaria in Kenya simply because their families cannot afford to purchase a net. For as little as $5 - the price of a mosquito net-you can save the life of a child.

My progress: A $5.oo donation will buy one mosquito net to be shared by 2 to 4 children. There will always be a need for mosquito nets, particularly in Africa. We are specifically requesting 50 nets, which can protect up to 200 children from contracting malaria.

This is a long term need assistance request .
