Biography
My name is Homer Thames and I am 52 yrs old, and a retired Marine who served his country for over 20 years. I also served overseas during Desert Sheild and Desert Strom. After retiring from the Marine Corp in 1997 I went to work for Gulf Stream Aerospace. I had been employed there from 10-1997 to 9-2009. In Sept. of 2009 I was told that I had Non- Small cell lung cancer stage 3B. The was no hope of the doctors being able to go in and remove the cancer for it had spread into my upper lobes. So the doctors tried hitting it hard with Chemo & radaction. Which almost killed me. My wife has had to stop working for I can no longer be left alone. The only income we have coming in is S.S. and it does not cover all of our bills. We have been turned down by the food stamp program. My medical bills are mounting and it is all that my wife can do to keep a roof over our heads and have electric, water, phone, gas for the drive to and from the doctors, my medicine, co-pays are mounting. It is not easy to ask for help but I see now that I have no choice. My wife has been fighting the VA since the onset of my illness and every month we receive a letter telling us that they still have yet to make a descion. My wife has sold everything that is worth anything and I have also giving up my boat and truck. We need help with paying our bills, buying food for not just us but for our daughter and 2 granddaughters that depend on myself and my wife. Thank you for reading my story and if you have any questions please feel free to ask. Homer Thames Jr. USMC Retired

Love & Life

Posted on Wed 2 Jun, 08:22 pm

I know that we all wish that we would have done things differently. I wish I had listen to my wife when she noticed changes in me. I never made the time to seek out another doctor for a 2nd opinion, Instead I kept tell Allie my wife that everything was fine. Boy was I wrong.
My Allie is the type of person that if it doesn't go away you may want to see someone else.
She is so smart and can remember things from 20 years ago it's like her mind never shuts down. I know she misses working as I do. Allie gave a her career to stay home and care for me, watching her sit and read everything there is on my cancer and all the treatments that are out there. I love the way she keeps my Doctors on their toes. Even the Doctors like it, saves them time looking through my file.
When we first found out that there was indeed a problem instead of staying home and helping her I went fishing for the week-end.
