Biography
This request submitted by Heidi Kirby for friends, BARBARA & TOMMY GRANT.The Grants live in a very old house that is need of many repairs. There is no electricity; the electric company wants $10,000.00 to run the lines for electricity. The Grants water comes into faucet in the basement and has to be run thru the rest of the house by a garden hose and therefore it is only cold. Barbara age 58 has been trying to fix the house up for the last 4 years, it was just a burnt out shell when they moved into it, and she has gotten it to look some what like a real house now. She has most of what she needs to fix the water situation except a water heater which is about $300.00. Their heat is from a wood stove, but it is difficult work for Barbara to get and bring in the wood, here in Id. the cold months run from end of Sept. thru end of May. She would like to change to electric heaters, once she can get electric lines put in. Tommy age 65 had a brain tumor about 6 yrs ago and now has Alzheimer’s and needs constant care. They live on a very small budget form Tommy’s disability, which just dropped drastically, as their youngest son Zachary, just turned 18 and is graduating High School. Zachary is the youngest of five children; the others were all adopted and the twins just older than Zachary have many disabilities, and require much of Barbara’s time as well. The most important thing they need is the electricity, they need this to run the water heater if they could get one and they could use electric heaters instead of the wood stove. Grant family insite thier house. The inside of the house, it was an empty shell when Grants moved into it now it has insaltion and sheetrock and new subflors no finished folrs as of yet.
Description: The Grants only income for the past 6 years has been disability; it turned to social
security in Feb. when Tommy turned 65. But they just lost about 1/3 of that because their
youngest son turned 18 last mo. Tommy has Alzheimer’s and needs constant care so Barbara
can not get a job.
