Biography
I have a wife and 3 kids, fulltime job, coach triathletes, and am a triathlete by hobby. Yeah, I am a little busy so training for a double iron man (4.8 mile swim, 224 mile bike, and 52.4 mile run) definitely presents its challenges. For me, it is priority #1 to try to minimize the impact my training has on my family. During a typical week I am waking up 4:00 AM 3 days a week so I can ride my bike 50+ miles before work. I am using 3-4 lunch hours each week for my swim training. 3 days a week I am running 4-6 miles after work. On weekends I am waking up as early as 3:00 AM so I can get in a 6-8 hour ride or a 4-5 hour run and be home before lunch.
My Purpose
To raise money to help find a cure for MS (specifically CCSVI research):

There is a new MS treatment being researched called CCSVI. Patients that have blocked veins and undergo an angioplasty have marked improvement with their MS symptoms. Although promising, additional research is needed. Dr. Krolczyk is one of the neurologists researching CCSVI here in Florida (http://health.usf.edu/medicine/neurology/faculty/krolczyk.htm). Additional information about CCSVI can be found at http://csvi-ms.net/en/content/ccsvi-huge-breakthrough-ms or http://csvi-ms.net/en/.

What is MS?

Multiple sclerosis (or MS) is a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system (CNS), which is made up of the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. The progress, severity, and specific symptoms of MS are unpredictable and vary from one person to another. Today, new treatments and advances in research are giving new hope to people affected by the disease.

Why I am raising money for MS:

Witnessing the struggles and courage of my mother-in-law as she battles MS made me think about what I could do to help. I am not a doctor or a scientist. I am not going to discover a cure for MS. But I knew I had to do something...

How I am raising money for MS:

After much consideration, I came to the conclusion that I could help fundraise for those that can find a cure. I plan to race in a double ironman in Virginia on September 17-18, 2010 to raise money for the CCSVI MS research. Yup, you read that right. It is a race that spans 2 days. A double ironman is a 4.8 mile swim, 224 mile bike, and 52.4 mile run.

Some people may think that I am a little on the nutty side for putting myself through all that, but those who know and love someone with MS, they know that my sacrifice is little compared to what those diagnosed with MS deal with on a daily basis. For me, the pain and fatigue I experience during the training and at the race has an end date. Without a cure, people with MS do not have an end date for when their pain and suffering will end. They will not be able to move on with their lives until there is a cure.
