I have a very hard time asking for help.  I have always worked since I
was 14 years old.  I am now 36 years old and am facing some very hard
times.  I work for a non-profit social justice/advocacy group helping
others not to lose their homes. Unfortunately now I am in that same
predicament.  I have always worked
for social service/Community based organizations.  The one time I went
corporate, I was laid off due to the effects of 9/11 (I worked and
lived in NYC all of my life until two and a half years ago).  I have
had a string of bad luck in the last few months.  My father became
very ill in the Dominican Republic in February and I spent three weeks
caring for him.  It caused the first hardship at work.  In April my
income was reduced by almost 60 percent and then my father passed away
prompting another emergency trip.  My car is financed at a predatory
interest rate of 24 percent but it was all I could get and I need a
car to get to work.  The car keeps breaking down and I have spent
thousands between repairs and rental fees and it still needs more
work.  I am stuck with the car and the payments and I cant get another
one.  I have been staying afloat and have cut back on all non
essentials. My mother has been wonderful in helping me not to lose
everything but it has come to the point where she cannot continue to
help me or else she
will end up here asking for help as well.  I really dont know what
else to do.  Any help will be greatly appreciated. Any help I receive
will be paid forward by all the good work I do everyday and when I
get
back on my feet I will come back here and help whomever I can to make
sure they can make it through the hard times.
