Description: A growing number of americans and nonprofit foundation are becoming engaged in Global
Micro Giving!
Increased international travel and advances in communications technology bring far-off
places closer than ever before, making people more aware of the rest of the world. In
addition to the beauty and wonder of faraway places, they see poverty, injustice,
violence, and despair. Many want to do something to help -- including John Ferber and The
MicroGiving Foundation!
Working with the International world is an exciting, challenging and rewarding step for
MicroGiving.
Executive director, Michelle Fraedrick, made a trip to India November of 2008 and
described the following about her trip.
1. Small amounts of money go a very long way
2. Money can be highly leveraged
3. It's possible to make a HUGe difference in seemingly hopeless situation
4. MicroGiving can play a role in making the world safer and more equitable
5. There are several reliable ways to facilitate donor donations overseas.
1. Directly (More difficult)
2. Through related nonprofit in the country (easier, but expensive)
Benefits MicroGiving members receive through making international donations.
1. Their world expands as does their understanding of its peoples.
2. Their children benefit from enlarged perspective and a sense of realities beyond their
privileged existence.
3. Connecting people around the world through one common mission.
4. Donors personal encounters will be more varied, more real, and possibly deeper than
previous experiences.
5. MicroGiving Donors will play a part in bringing HOPE and Opportunity to people in
poverty and despair.
6. MicroGiving builds an even bigger bridge and facilitates relationships across borders
that will last forever.
My progress: MicroGiving will start by getting involved in India and expand from there. We will do this
by working with organizations that have proven successful in helping people work
themselves out of poverty. The reason we want to connect the world with India first is
because we know that even a small "micro" amounts of money will go a very long
way. We will see that we partner with NGOs that will leverage our donors money many times
over to improve countless numbers of lives.
We know there are critical needs in our own backyard, and we will not loose sight of those
individuals and organizations who need MicroGiving. However, we do believe that we have a
responsibility to help make the world a better place for all by contributing, even in a
small way, to reducing the inequalities that are so prevalent is many other parts of the
world.
We will look for opportunities for our donors to give small amounts ($35 to $100) to the
poor, primarily women, to start or expand their businesses, allowing them to feed their
families, educate their children and work their way out of grinding poverty. The poor
aren't poor because they are lazy or inept. They are poor because they were born into
poverty and have no chance to emerge from it. They need a hand, and MicroGiving wants to
allow each and everyone of us to provide just that -- A helping hand.
This is a long term need assistance request .
My message:The first step for the MicroGiving international committee is to visit India and the ongoing NPO projects.
