Biography
68 year old African American woman, retired from police dept as 911 operator. Previous employed as social worker, medicaid customer service rep, and other public service jobs for over 20 years. Have always tried to help people have a better quality of life, and always stood uo for what was right, fair, and just. Always cared for the neds of the elderly, children and pets. Moved from Massachusetts to Georgia to get away from the winter weather, after falling several times on the ice and snow requiring 6 surgeries. Have had a total of 12 surgeries, 4 on spine, 3 on knees, 1 on shoulder, 2 on feet, 2 on hands. Good health, only one medication for high blood pressure. Raised two sons after divorce when they were 2 and 4 years old. Went to college so that I would be able to provide adequately for my children. Earned a BA in sociology, and became a social worker. I have 7 grand children and 5 great grand children, all living out of state from me. I have voluntered for many social causes, i.e. preparing food for children in summer programs, homeless shelters, filling food baskets for thanksgiving and xmas for the needy, and have always contributed to charities, ministries that provided for the needy, as well as giving clothing, food, furniture, and shelter to people needing temporary shelter for various reasons. It makes me feel good when I am able to share what ever I can with others less fortunate, for I firmly believe that we are not on this earth just for ourselves, but to help and support our neighbors, because each life affects another in one way or another.
Is it human nature? Is it human nature that when someone helps you and you are content, you forget that your situation still requires some action on your part? I watched this young man I took in leave yesterday morning, all neat and clean. I thought he was going out to work with a friend to try and make some money. When he came in about 2:45 a.m. this morning, I found a note that he left thanking me for taking him in and trusting him. But the note also invited me to a cookout today with a lady friend of his. What lady friend? If he had a lady friend, why didn't she take him in? I don't understand how anyone can become so content when they think their situation has changed for the better. I wonder how long he thinks I can provide a place for him with the use of my hot water and laundry service, and telephone service and foot the cost. I know I am going to have to ask him to leave soon. There are more homeless shelters in Atlanta >>>
