Biography:
Hi everyone, just thought i'd jot a few notes about myself! let's see.. Well i am 34 years old and currently reside in South Florida, but i was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland... I lived there until a few years ago.. I grew up in a suburb outside of Baltimore to a very loving family along with my two brothers.... For as long as i can remember I'd always been kinda of an entrepreneur, devising business ideas and going through various lengths to try to make things happen... Shortly after i graduated college I had the beginnings of an idea for an Internet based Advertising company.... At the same time, I was trying to get this business underground, my lack of finances, credit, connections, experience, operating history, and a littany of other issues were obstacles that were always getting in my way... One day (and I remember it clearly to this day), I got so fed up with people telling me the things I couldn't do, that I promised myself with this particular business that I was going to work non-stop and with complete determination in order to overcome any obstacles that came in my path.. And work I did... Soon my middle brother, Scott, and I become business partners and a little company called Teknosurf.com was born.. This was back in 1998ish.. Scott and I are very complimentary to each other, having the same philosophy on matters, and as well where I may perhaps excel in technical and creative oriented matters, Scott is a champion of champions at business strategy, sales, and just hyper-growing a company in general... plus so much more..(don't take my word for it, he won the prestigious STEVIE award for best CEO, 2005)..... So anyways, we were VERY fortunate and our services and technology, etc became very popular with our customers and Teksnoruf.com Became Advertising.com in 2001... Then the dot.com bust occurred and our company was placed under an incredible strain, as we were not profitable, we had to make some incredibly tough and painful decisions, including downsizing our staff, which to this day is the most painful day of my life... Having to say goodbye to so many people, all of whom I considered not just co-workers, but true friends..... Ultimately, especially in a troubling economy, our product and service offering provided the best value in our industry and while it took us another 2 years to become profitable, we were able to straighten out the company and position it for future success... In 2004, we were roughly 500 employees strong, with 15+ offices world-wide... in June of 2004, AOL/TimeWarner announced they were to acquire Advertising.com.... I feel incredibly fortunate, grateful, and proud to have been able to co-create Advertising.com ... A mixture of a tremendous amount of hard work, tireless commitment, and the support and comraderie of all of the people who worked there all contributed to the companies success...

My brother and I stayed with the company for 2 additional years after the acquisition and now we are each independently as well as together pursuing a variety of new ventures... We will always have the entrpeneurial bug.......

About 2 years ago in 2005 or 2006, I first learned of MicroLending and was fascinated by the incredibly beneficial impact it has had for so many people. A natural thought had occured to me which was simply, "if someone could radically improve the quality of their life by me providing them a little bit of support, then I would be HAPPY to provide it... Not a LOAN, but in essence a gift... MicroLending is big business for banks and other institutions... MicroGiving is about people helping people...
We are just at the beginning of all the wonderful things we have planned for MicroGiving, and I thank you for taking the time to read this long missive and please send me feedback if you like! I really appreciate all the wonderful messages I have received from so many of you already...

Well that's enough for now! I'll fill in some more info over time based on whether or not people actually care to know, heheh :)
My Purpose
I created microgiving.com for a very simple reason. There are literally millions of people out there, perhaps you included, who have a strong desire to improve themselves and their communities. Microgiving.com offers the tools and information to help these people “live the best lives they can” and help improve the world around them. Through www.microgiving.com, individual donors and recipients are joined together in a community of support and hope for a better future.

Posted on Fri 21 Nov, 08:00 am

Ever considered making “R.A.O.K” a habitual practice? Like brushing your teeth and putting on clean pantaloons. . . (hopefully)? Dear John - I see that you do alot for people. I was wondering if you knew of anyone who would donate building supplies so that we can rebuild my house which burned down, and maybe be home for Christmas instead of spending Christmas in this hotel. Thanks!
