Biography
The Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House was formed in 1977 with the cooperation of Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles staff, patient parents, community leaders and the McDonald’s Operator’s Association of Southern California. Under the leadership of President Stuart E. Siegel, M.D., 16 units were available for families when the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House was opened on September 14, 1980. The expansion and transplant wing was completed April 30, 1994 with an additional 16 units. The House is now the fifth largest in the world with 75 family rooms. Our Purpose The purpose of the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House is to provide a safe and supportive haven for families of children undergoing treatment for critical illness or injuries at local Children’s Hospitals and other area hospitals. The House’s dedicated staff and volunteers create a warm “home-away-from-home” where families can stay together and find comfort from those who share similar concerns. The House is open to both families with children who are hospitalized and outpatients, and can accommodate up to 75 families in a single evening. The Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House is owned and operated by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California (RMHCSC), a non-profit California corporation recognized under Section 501(c)(3) by the U. S. Government. Our Mission The mission of Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House is to support the health and well-being of chldren by providing a 'home away from home' for families of seriously-ill children who are receiving care in Southern California. The Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House (LARMH) is dedicated to supporting the health and well-being of children, by providing a “home away from home” for families of seriously-ill children who are receiving care in Southern California. The Fountain Avenue building first opened in 1980 as the third Ronald McDonald House in the world. In 1994 an expansion increased the capacity to accommodate 35 families. In the spring of 2008 the 40 room Lyman Place building opened enabling LARMH to accommodate 75 families and making the LA House the third largest House in the United States
