Biography
I am from NH originally and lived here until I joined the Navy at 17. I have lived in NH for the last 8 years and it has been a stuggle, but I continue to take it one day at a time. My dog, Dusty has helped me tremendously. I enjoy reading, writing, spending time good friends, family, cooking, gardening, photography. I love to learn new things. I try to keep my mind as active as possible. I volunteer a few hours a week teaching English as a Second Language. This is one of my passions. I love to learn about the student culture and their experiences. I am involved in another organization where I hold various positions at differnt times and try and help others as much as I can. I believe that everything happens for a reason and that it will eventually make a person stonger.

My Purpose
I joined microgiving at the suggestion of a stranger actually. She heard of my need and suggested this site. She thought that someone might hear about the goal that I have of Duaty becoming certified as a service dog and might want to help. I have met with a behavioralist here in NH. She suggested that we start from the beginning and go through obedience training with a different method and then work on the service dog training.

Thursday I had 3 Doctor's appointments at the VA lasting from 8:00am until 3:15pm. It was the first vision appointment Dusty Attented with me. This appointment was different, because it required her to move around and do several down stays, she did relatively well. The doctor was pretty understanding. The other two doctors were more used to her, so they were very understanding and she did extrememly well in the appointments. She did very well in the waiting areas. It was a long day for both of us. We were out of the house by 7:20 and not home until 4:00. We were both pretty tired. I was very pleased by her progress. She seems to be getting used to the VA and also they are getting used to having her there. A lot of people ask questions, but most are other veterans so I feel comfortable and have come up with appropriate answers that don't make me feel uncomfortable. She is always the belle of the ball. One of the hardest things is everyone wants to talk to her and pet her and I have to tell them poliltely that she is working and that she can not be touched or spoken to. It is part of my job to educate people though, which is why I am trying to educate myself as well.

It is a small world. I loved that tiny little town but I don't miss the New England weather. I lived in a nice little house on RT 11 right across the street from the Wendall Marsh

Best of luck friend, I am sure a psychiatric service dog would help greatly. Dogs are so good for so many things...beautiful creatures.

Since the journal feature is down I thought I would fill the community in here. Currently, I am working with Dusty on reinforcing basic obedience commands, and working with her on public access in places where she is allowed with me. She is allowed to go to the VA Hospital for appointments. I recently had to go to Urgent care for a medical issue and she did very well. My anxiety level is very high when I have to go to Urgent care, it was helpful to have her with me. She followed all of my commands and acted appropriately for a service dog in training. It was a long day for her and I as I had two regular appointments that day as well at the same facility. My doctors are very understanding. She does well in their office with a sit or down stay with a repeated command needed. It is good practice. I appreciate thier understanding. Things are looking up. I want to thank Microgiving for my first donation. I will be taking Dusty to see a Behavioralist on May 7th to evaluate what behaviors need to be worked on, if there are any before we enter a Certification Training Program. This donation will help towards that.

My mothers memorial service was beautiful. All four of us children were able to be there as well as the rest of the immediate family and friends. It was unseasonalbly warm for April in New Hampshire. My mother loved the sun. It was as if she was shining down on us and all around us.

I am hanging in there. It has been a tough week. My mom passed away 3 months ago today. Her memorial service is on Saturday. I hope that it will bring closure. I know she is still with me though. And the good thing is that I am talking about it. That is what people say. Her birthday was on Sunday. So it has been a tough week. But I have a lot to be thankful for. She is not suffering anymore and in a better place and one day I will see her again and she is still in my heart. Thak you for sending me a message. It is nice to get a friendly message.

A friend is one of the nicest things you can have, and one of the best things you can be. ~ Glad to have you as a new friend. How are you doing?
